Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get my prescription refills?

If you need a prescription refill on a medication that we prescribed for you, please call our office. Prescriptions and refills of prescriptions will be issued during normal business hours. We ask that you call at least two days prior to the end of your prescription so we may have time to call the refill in to your pharmacy before your medication runs out. Leave complete information about your medication. Include your name, your date of birth, the name of the medication, dosage, pharmacy name, pharmacy phone number and the name of your doctor. The staff will call in your prescription by the next business day. The staff checks these messages several times throughout the day and will call in your prescription promptly.

If you have not seen your cardiologist for a year or more, we will schedule an appointment before filling your prescription. You will receive enough medication to last until your appointment time.

What if I have an emergency?

In cases of emergencies where you are in distress or require immediate presence of a physician, please call 911.

During business hours, please call our office and speak to a staff member who can advise you on what to do. After regular business hours, you will have the option to leave a message for the rounding physician, who will be paged.

Emergency office visits are conducted on the same day. Keep in mind, in these cases, that your regular cardiologist may not be available, but one of his/her partners will see you and communicate with your cardiologist.

What if I have more questions when I get home?

The best way to get all of your questions answered is to write them down so you are prepared to ask them when you are visiting with the physician. However, we realize that you may have received a lot of information at the time of your visit and that you may have further questions once you leave the office. When you call our office, simply state the nature of your call. Our staff is trained to take your call and direct you to the appropriate person or department based upon your specific needs. All of our staff members have voice-mail, which is checked regularly throughout the day. Every effort will be made to return your call as soon as possible. Response time depends on depth and detail of the issue. However, you can be assured that our nurses are in constant contact with your physician and that they are making every effort to respond to your inquiry as soon as possible.

What are my cardiologist's qualifications?

It is important that you, as a healthcare consumer, understand what your healthcare provider's credentials and qualifications are. All of our cardiologists are board certified in cardiovascular disease and have received additional training in their areas of expertise. What if I am admitted to the hospital?

If you must be admitted to the hospital, the rounding physician in our practice attends to your care. It is possible that you will not see your regular cardiologist during your admission. Our physician coverage within the hospital rotates weekly. Even if you do not see your regular cardiologist, you can be sure that the rounding physician and your regular cardiologist are consulting about your condition.

How do I get copies of my medical records?

It is your right to obtain copies of your personal medical records. As the holder of these confidential pieces of information, it is important that our practice take strict measures to ensure privacy is maintained for all of our patients. You may either pick up your records or request they be mailed to you. Our staff may ask for you to sign a release authorization to ensure confidentiality. In some cases there may be a charge for these records. You may call our office and speak with the medical records department for details on our policy.
